Construction of Verkhnebaksanskaya hydroelectric power station

The project aims to reduce the electricity shortage in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic by creating a renewable energy facility with a capacity of at least 23 MW.

The Verkhnebaksanskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant will be the first hydroelectric power plant in the Elbrus district, generating approximately 90 million kWh of clean, renewable electricity.

Land assessments are currently underway for the subsequent acquisition of land plots for the plant's construction. The acquisition is planned for the third or fourth quarter of 2025.

Project documentation for the environmental assessment was withdrawn from Rosprirodnadzor without the provision of the public service for organizing and conducting the state environmental assessment due to the need to clarify the boundaries of the functional zones of the Elbrus Region National Park. Materials for clarifying the boundaries of the functional zones of the Elbrus Region National Park were submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation for review.
